Where the Locals Eat: A Wellfleet Restaurant Guide From The Even'tide

One of the best parts of staying in Wellfleet is the food. For a town this small, the dining scene punches way above its weight, from harborside oyster bars to a reservation only French bistro tucked off Route 6. After decades in town, here are the spots we send our guests to again and again.

Van Rensselaer's

Right up Route 6 from us in South Wellfleet, Van Rensselaer's is the easiest dinner of your trip. It has been a local favorite for years, known for fresh seafood, friendly service, and a menu with something for everyone. The potato crusted salmon and sesame seared ahi are standouts. Great for families and big groups.

Chez Chloe Bistro

Longtime visitors will remember this Lecount Hollow Road spot as PB Boulangerie. The famous bakery closed in 2026, but Chef Philippe Rispoli has reinvented it as Chez Chloe Bistro, an intimate French dinner spot named for his daughter. It is dinner only and reservation only, just minutes from the hotel, and one of the most exciting new restaurants on the Outer Cape.

The Beachcomber

An institution. Perched on the dunes above Cahoon Hollow Beach, the Comber serves oysters, fried seafood, and frozen drinks with live music and an ocean view you will not find anywhere else on the Cape. Go for lunch or an early dinner, then walk the beach. Summer only, and it fills up fast.

Mac's Shack

Fresh local seafood with a creative streak, including one of the best sushi menus on the Outer Cape. The butter poached lobster is the move if you want to skip the crackers and bibs. Casual, lively, and consistently excellent. Their sister spot, Mac's on the Pier, is perfect for lobster rolls at a picnic table by the harbor.

The Wicked Oyster

A Wellfleet classic in the center of town, serving breakfast and dinner. Locals swear by the breakfast, and dinner brings Wellfleet oysters pulled from the harbor just down the road. If you only try oysters once on your trip, this is a safe bet.

Winslow's Tavern

Set in an 1805 mansion on Main Street, Winslow's is where we send guests looking for a nicer night out that still feels relaxed. The tree shaded patio is one of the prettiest places to eat in town, and the wine list is deep. Ideal for a date night or a celebratory dinner.

Pearl

Down by the harbor at Mayo Beach, Pearl pairs classic New England seafood with the best sunset deck in town. Grab a table on the rooftop, order the chowder and a dozen Wellfleet oysters, and watch the boats come in.

Moby Dick's

A Route 6 landmark on the way toward Truro. Order at the counter, grab a picnic table, and dig into fried clams, lobster rolls, and onion rings. It is BYOB, family friendly, and exactly what a Cape Cod clam shack should be.

Pizza Spinello

A tiny family run spot in downtown Wellfleet turning out terrific Roman style pizza. Perfect for a low key night when you want to grab a pie and eat it back at your cottage.

The Bookstore & Restaurant

Part bookstore, part restaurant, all Wellfleet. Browse the shelves, then sit down to locally sourced seafood near Mayo Beach. It is one of the more unique dining experiences in town and a favorite for a leisurely lunch.

A Few Tips From the Front Desk

Reservations matter in July and August, especially at Winslow's, Mac's Shack, and Pearl. The Beachcomber does not take them, so go early. And if you want a night in, Mac's Seafood Market and Hatch's Fish Market both sell fresh local catch you can grill right here at The Even'tide.
